DIY Holiday Decor

Cutout Canvas Decor

I came across this on Pintrest and thought it’s such a cool idea I had to share! Unfortunately when I clicked to the site, I could not find the project anywhere, but you get the idea! This would be cool for any art, not just holiday decor. Plus if you’re thinking of DIY presents, this would be a good one.

If you want to spice it up more you could even add a LED light to the back of it!

Cool Gadgets and Gifts for the Holidays

DSCN5786It’s that time of the year again – crazy holiday shopping, last minute gifts, and the “what to get the person who has everything”.

I’ve done most of my shopping this year online. Forget the crazy lines, and the crowded parking lots, I like to take my time check reviews (which is huge for me), use my coupon code and then have the package magically appear within the week on my doorstep!

But this year it has been a bit overwhelming for me. My husband has a big family and my family all still buys presents for each other and including all the nieces and nephews, it’s a lot! Usually we split it, he shops for his family and I shop for mine, and before I know it we’re done. Well I’ve done all the shopping this year and as I tear open the boxes to go through everything, it seems like I still have so much more to do. It’s the most wonderful time of the year haha!

One thing I like unique, cool gadgets that you don’t necessarily need but they’re fun to look at and just know that they exist! So here’s a few

Free Birthday Cards #1

Free Birthday Cards – Just Print

I don’t know why I didn’t start this sooner because I hate buying cards. Here’s a template for two birthday cards – just print out and use. Since it’s set for two designs per page you will have to cut in half and sign the back or right on front. It’s not meant for folding.

Wedding Anniversary Gift

Wedding Anniversary Gift

I made this today for my husband for our 4 year anniversary. It’s the lyrics to our wedding song “At Last” we chose this song because he took me to an Etta James concert for our first date. We got married in the DR, hence the map. I just need to frame it.

Cool Present in Lieu of Card

A Keepsake for Years

I saw a post today my friend shared on facebook, and I don’t remember the name of the blog (sorry I can’t reference). But the idea behind the post was instead of buying a card every year on Mother’s Day, you buy a journal, and every year the spouse and kids use a page in the journal to write something, post a picture, or draw.

I thought it was such a cute idea. It can even be used for birthdays, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day etc… I know for someone like me, who throws cards out, a journal is definitely a keepsake that I would cherish. I like the idea of my husband and kids writing the message, because it comes from the heart, (not that cards don’t) but it’s the words and thoughts directly from your loved ones.

The women who posted the blog article said the best part is that her children are young, so the journal starts out as scribbles and as the children grow it will turn into sentences. It reminds me of my kids’ preschool art that I saved.

This is something I can see myself looking at when I’m older and enjoying the memories they wrote about each year!

All Natural Cleaning and More

The Age of Organics and All Natural

I don’t know if it depends on where you live, who you hang with, age, upbringing, or all of the above but being health conscious is everywhere. I hate to say it but it even seems trendy (which is a good thing). I know back in the 80’s when I grew up, TV dinners were the bomb. Now it’s looked upon as processed crap. And bleach! How else do you get your whites white?!

Fast forward to now, everywhere you look the marketing is all-natural, organic, green, whole grain etc..I’m not anywhere near being the perfect all-natural, tree-hugging, garden growing, non processed, only organic individual. BUT, I try a little more each week to position myself and my family towards that. Small changes over time make big differences RIGHT? I think so.

As far as food is concerned it takes a lot of awareness in the States, because pretty much everything in the supermarket has a ton of hidden ingredients (cough, chemicals) to preserve the freshness. However, I’m not writing about food today. I wanted to share some articles about all natural cleaners, something I have been doing for the past year and a half and have been happy with the results.

Here’s a list of ingredients to make all natural cleaners:

• Lemons

• Baking Soda

• Vinegar

• Spray bottles

• Hydrogen peroxide

Now here’s a list of some useful articles to achieve these all natural cleaners PLUS many other uses! You can these print these and post on the fridge so you don’t forget! I’ve done it myself.

Happy healthy cleaning!

Housewarmng Gift Ideas That Aren’t Cliche

Housewarming Gift Ideas

My sister-in-law and her hubby just moved into their new home last weekend and I wanted to give them a nice housewarming present. Not the cliche gift card, plant, or doormat…something cool, innovative, or home-made, maybe even a little techie. As I was perusing the internet, I found some pretty cool gadgets and ideas that I wanted to share.

New Category- DIY! Project #1 Art Display Holder

I wanted to add more inspiration to the blog, so I’ve added another category called…DIY! Nothing is more empowering than building and creating things for yourself and others. It’s like a journey back to the beginning of times when we had to hunt, and make clothing, and ah, just kidding! I hope some of these projects inspire you.

Art Display Holder

This little project is for my daughter who is really into art and displaying her pictures.

This one was simple, and I had these items laying around the house.

Scissors
Twine
Clothespins (I used 6)
Supplies

Step 1

Cut twine as long as you like about 2 inches from the end add a knot, at the same end put a loop knot for the push-pin.

Step 2

Slide the other end of the twine through the clothespin and keep pushing it until it hits the knot, then add another clothespin, but keep it about 2-3 inches away from the first. After two clothespins, I would add another knot to section it off and prevent them from sliding together.

Step 3

Repeat until you’re finished. Then hang it wherever you want.
Here it is!
